Linda Ludington
1944 - 2023Linda Ludington was born on March 3, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan. She passed away peacefully at home with her husband and dog by her side on April 5, 2023, after a fierce battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy and Pneumonia. Linda was 79 years old.
Linda attended Olivet College and graduated from Eastern Michigan University. Before her retirement, she was a successful businesswoman. She was the first woman to hold the Director of Information Technology position at both Kalamazoo and Hope Colleges. She later became the Vice President of a software company in Grand Rapids.
Linda was a force to be reckoned with. She had a big personality, which was known when she walked into a room. She was wicked smart, had a quick wit, was fiercely competitive, and stood by her convictions. She loved to debate with anyone willing to take her on. She enjoyed reading, cooking, and learning, often spending hours a day on the Internet researching topics she found of interest.
Linda was a single mother and raised her two daughters, Kathleen and Laurie, alone, while successfully balancing motherhood and her career. She was proud of her children and loved them beyond measure.
She married the love of her life, Richard Polmanteer, on September 17, 1998. Linda and Richard lived on Hammond Bay in Northern Michigan. Both talented artists, they enjoyed their time in the home studio Richard built, walking the beach on Lake Huron with their beloved dog, Maxx, and fishing on Ocqueoc Lake. Undyingly loyal to each other, they shared a love that is often only seen in the movies.
Linda had one Grandson, John Moran. She was actively involved in his life from the day he was born, attending sporting events, concerts, and every school event there was. She wanted to be the first phone call if he needed to be babysat and often took John and his best friend on vacation to their cottage up north. One of her best memories from his childhood was when John named her his Special Person in elementary school. Not his mother or his father; his Nonny. She loved him with everything she had.
Linda is survived by her husband, Richard Polmanteer; daughters Kathleen Gorman and Laurie Moran; grandson, John Moran; brothers David (Ann) Ludington, Martin (Kathy) Ludington, and Bob Henke; and many nieces and nephews.
At Linda’s request, there will be no public services.
