Lorraine Long1944 - 2016
Lorraine Clara Long, 72, beloved wife, mother,
and friend, died peacefully on July 31, 2016,
surrounded by her family.
Lori was born on June 5, 1944
to Casimir and Blanche Woszczyna of Posen, MI.
She graduated Cum Laude from Mercy College in Detroit in 1966 with a
Bachelor’s Degree in nursing and began life-long career devoted to
caring for her patients and their families,
During her 50 years as a registered nurse, she worked for Alpena General
Hospital, the City of Detroit Department of Health doing home visits
related to maternal-child heath, tuberculosis and communicable disease,
and additionally staffed community immunization clinics. She worked
several years as a staff nurse for St. Mary’s Hospital in Livonia before
spending 28 years at The University of Michigan caring for patients in
the adult internal medicine clinic, as well as covering pediatrics,
geriatrics, and maternal health. Lori focused on and excelled at patient
education and mentoring fellow nurses.
Lori is survived by:
her devoted husband of 49 years, John,
loving daughters Jennifer McCurdy (Robert) and
Jacqueline Long (Trevor Frick) and
her treasured granddaughters Madeline, Rylan, and Falyn McCurdy.
She is also survived by numerous friends from her nursing career and her
long-time interest in historical conservation and preservation with

younger sister, Karen Wosczyna.
The family would like to express enormous gratitude to the nurses and
staff of Hospice of the Sunrise Shore and the nurses staffing the Comfort
Care Suite at Alpena Regional Medical Center, The exceptional care given
by all will not be forgotten.
A memorial gathering will take place on Saturday, August 27th from
2-6 pm at the Northville Community Center, 303 West Main Street,
Northville, MI 48167,
