Lucille Smart

Lucille Mary Smart age 91 of Rogers City passed away peacefully at Medilodge in Rogers City on Sunday, February 18, 2024.

She was born in North Branch on November 27, 1932 to Jacob and Ina (Pierson) Schlaud.

Lucille is survived by 8 children, Thomas (Tami) Smart of Posen, Claudia (Robert) Paschke of Rogers City, Patricia (Terry) Schellie of Alpena, John (Jean) Smart of California, Johanna (Kevin) Misiak of Lake Orion, Robert “Pete” (Shelley) Smart of California, David Smart of Nevada and Jennifer Molski of Gaylord; 15 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a brother, Gerald (Marlene) Schlaud and four sisters-in-law, Genny Schlaud, Rosemary Schlaud, Rosemary Schlaud and Rosemary Schlaud.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin in 2013; an infant son,  Ted; and 9 of her siblings, Harold, Margaret, Viola, George, Art, Dwight, Catherine, Norman, and her twin brother, Laverne.

Lucille and Melvin were married on January 29, 1955 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lapeer. She and Melvin visited 49 of the United States and 7 Canadian Provinces. Following her funeral, cremation will take place and a portion of her ashes will be combined with Melvin’s and they will scattered together in Hawaii, the last of the 50 States.

Friends may visit  at the Beck Funeral Home on Saturday, March 2nd from 4 p.m. through time her funeral beginning with the Rosary at 6 p.m.

Inurnment will take place in the spring at St. Casimir Catholic Cemetery.
