Mae Kortman

O. Mae Kortman age 92 of Rogers City passed away peacefully at Golden Beach Manor on May 13, 2020.

She was born August 24, 1927 in Cheboygan to Bert and Olive (Barr) Proctor.

Mae graduated from Cheboygan High School in 1945. She attended County Normal then taught in a one room schoolhouse. Mae went on to Central Michigan College where she attained a degree in accounting. On May 10, 1958 she married Clifford Kortman at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ocqueoc. She was bookkeeper for Minelli’s Chevrolet Dealership in Rogers City for several years. In 1968 she and her husband Clifford purchased Minelli’s Restaurant and renamed it Kortman’s Restaurant. They operated the restaurant until their retirement in 2006. She enjoyed reading, cross stitching, and playing boardgames with her grandchildren.

Mae is survived by two children, Robert (Lisa) of Rogers City and Linda (Larry) Johnson of Grand Rapids; four grandchildren, Richard Kortman, Jeremy (Caitlin) Kortman, Leilani (Daniel) Marx, and Amanda (Justin) Menkveld; six great grandsons, Emmett Menkveld, Lincoln Menkveld, Phineas Menkveld, Gideon  Menkveld, Jacen Kortman and Clifford Marx; four step grandchildren, Chris (Gloria) Johnson, Anthony (Tiffany) Johnson, Hillary (Mike) Waters and Josh (Stephanie) Johnson; and seven step great grandchildren, Christina Johnson, Sereena Johnson, Jasper Johnson, Fayth Waters, Logan Waters, Jonas Johnson and Andee Richards; and two sisters, Gertrude Rocheleau and Shirley Barrette.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; parents, Bert and Olive; and an infant brother, Daniel.

Beck Funeral Home will announce a memorial service at a later date.

Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church – Ocqueoc or McLaren Hospice in memory of Mae Kortman
