Margaret Grulke

1936 - 2021

Margaret Pearl “Peggy” Grulke entered the arms of her loving Savior on June 21, 2021 following a long, courageous battle with blood cancer.

She was born to George and Iva (Kortman) Baker on January 4, 1936 in Detroit.

On November 1, 1958 she married Carl Grulke. Affectionately known as “Peggy” to all who knew her, she was best known as a nurturer, always taking care of others, and she and Carl opened their hearts and home to 25 foster children over the years, as well as the six children of their own. Peggy was also known for her amazing cooking and baking skills which she thankfully passed on to her children. Even though her family is heartbroken over her death, they are relieved that she is no longer in pain and know she will still help guide them throughout their lives here on earth.

Peggy is survived by her husband of 62 years, Carl; six children: Steven, of Rogers City; Cathy, of Rogers City; Rick (Terri) of Sun City, Arizona; Alan, of Rogers City; Lori, of Rogers City; and Peggy Sue (Larry) Schaudt, of Rogers City; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; a sister, Betty Wright; and numerous family and friends, including her dear friends, Millie Bowler and Joyce Nelson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Iva; brother, Marlin Baker; a sister, Norma (Eugene) Buczkowski; brother-in-law, Howard Wright; and sister-in-law, Joan Baker.

Peggy had made arrangements though Beck Funeral Home to donate her body to science and will be transported to the University of Michigan. Per her wishes, no services are planned at this time.

Friends may donate to Peace Lutheran Church, Hospice of Michigan-Alpena, or MidMichigan Alpena Cancer Center.
