Marie Basel
1924 - 2014BASEL, Marie Agnes (Prell) age 89 of Hawks,
was called to her heavenly home on May 21, 2014.
She was born Nov. 8, 1924, in Alpena,
to Edward and Martha (Mielke) Prell.
Marie graduated from Rogers City High School. She married Amos Basel
on Dec, 21, 1941, and together they owned and operated a family dairy
farm, Marie was a Sunday School teacher and 4-H leader. She loved
music, playing the piano, dancing and square dancing with Amos, She
enjoyed playing cards, cooking, baking, spending time with her family,
reading, sewing and spending the winters in Texas.
Their marriage was blessed with eight children,
Amy (Gerald) Melvin of West Branch,
Faye (Gerald) Marenkewicz of Flushing, Beth (John) Noffze of Hillman,
Edith (Tom) Novak of Freeland, Andrew (Rose) Basel of Madison, Wis.,
Daniel (Lisa) Basel of Mankato, Min., Mark (Luann) Basel of Hillman,
and Bonnie (Randy) Grulke of Hawks;
30 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by:
her husband, Amos;
two grandsons, Chad and Derick Dice;
great-granddaughter, Madison Noffze;
parents, Edward and Martha;
three brothers, Merlin Mielke, Elroy Mielke and Wilbur Prell;
three sisters, Ruth Hall, Dorothy Prell and Margaret Pike.
Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home Saturday, May 24, from 3 pm.
until 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:45 p.m, Visitation will continue
Sunday at Faith Lutheran Church in Hillman, from 1 p.m. through the
time of the funeral at 2 p.m., with Pastor Jeff Londgren and
Pastor Daniel Basel officiating.
Interment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery in Rogers City,
at 5 p.m,
Memorials may be given to Faith Lutheran Church
or a charity of your choice.
