Marvin Karsten
1925 - 2009Marvin H. “Archie” Karsten age 84 of Rogers City
passed away November 11, 2009 at
Tendercare Health Center of Rogers City
He was born August 5, 1925 in Belknap Township
to Archibald and Margaret (Schalk) Karsten
Marvin served in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant during World War II.
On August 7, 1952 he married Virginia Yarch in Cheboygan. Mr. Karsten retired
from Great Lakes Shipping in 1978 as a First Mate and Relief Captain. Archie was a
life member of the Rogers City V.F.W. Post 607 and the Disabled Veterans. He was
also a member of the Rogers City Servicemen’s Club and Peace Lutheran Church.
Archie was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by:
wife, Virginia
4 children, Peggy (Norman) Kowalski, Patty (Ed) Brege, Mark (Missie) Karsten, and
Jeanine (Paul) Hein
10 grandchildren, Brandi (Roy) Tulgestke, Matthew (Becky) Brege,
Kaeli (Brad) Dufresne, Jessie (Kevin) Muller, Joel (Jessica) Hein,
Kristi (Mathew) Bauer, Andrew Hein, Tyler Kowalski,
Bret Karsten, and Chad Karsten
7 great grandchildren, Caleb Karsten, Logan Hein, Sydney Tulgestke, Elise Muller,
Trevor Tulgestke, Trent Hein, and Jacob Brege
7 siblings, Robert (Lucille) Karsten, Lila Burkness, James (Geraldine) Karsten,
Chester (Brenda) Karsten, Margaret (John) Carnali,
Nancy (James) Klingshirn, and Jean (Richard) Warwick

Marvin was preceded in death by:
1 brother, Norman Karsten;
1 sister, Sylvia Staley and
2 brothers in law, John Burkness and Richard Staley
Friends may visit the Beck Funeral Home on Thursday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. with
a Veteran’s service at 6:45 followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.. Visitation will
resume on Friday at Peace Lutheran Church from 12 -noon until time of funeral at
1:00 p.m. with Pastor Kevin Jones officiating. Rogers City V.F.W. Post 607 will
accord full military honors during the graveside service at Mt. Calvary Catholic
Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Rogers City Sports Boosters, Rogers City Servicemen’s
Club or the charity of your choice
