Mary Brandt

Mary Margaret Brandt, age 76, of Dearborn and Cheboygan passed away at the family cottage on July 3, 2022.

Mary was born March 20, 1946 in Detroit to Carl and Grace (Kirchoff) Brandt.

She grew-up and attended school in Dearborn. She graduated from Oakland University in 1968 and started her career as an elementary school teacher in the Detroit School System. She was tough but fair and was often given the challenging classes. She was good at what she did. Mary was creative. She dabbled in many crafts through the years. These included weaving, lace making, quilting and stamping. She surrounded herself with beautiful items she collected from all over. In earlier years she traveled extensively through the United States and Europe. She loved flowers and plants.

Mary is survived by her sisters, Chris Viets of Sidney, Montana and Cheboygan and Cathy O’Connor of Northern Michigan; Nieces, Sue Dyke (Gary) Alex and Andrew, Anne Dout, Joni Nice (Josh) MacCarrie and MacKenna, Amy Paul (Evan) and Beth Hecker (Bill)Abby, David and Levi; Nephews Karl Borbi (Mary)Colin and Wyatt, John Borbi (Tracy)Parker and Gracie, Matt Borbi (Lisa), and Paul Viets (Chelsey) Haddie and Cutler. She is also survived by her life-long friends, Laura Savage and Silvio Benvenuti.

She was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Grace and sister and brother in law Carol and Dick Dout.

There will be a graveside gathering at 2 p.m. Wednesday July 6^th at Oak Hill Cemetery, Cheboygan Michigan overlooking Mullett Lake. Friends may call at the cottage from 3:30 – 5 p.m. the same day.

A memorial for her Detroit area friends will be held at a later date.
