Mary Jo Elliott

On March 1, 2023, Mary Jo (McClelland) Elliott, 83, surrounded by her loving children passed away peacefully to go join her late husband Daryl who has been waiting for her in the car like usual for 12 years and another 20 minutes.

Mary Jo graduated from Cheboygan Catholic High School where she was a model student, cheerleader, sang in the choir and their acapella group. She was an avid bowler who won the Cheboygan Classics five times where her love of that sport was born from bowling at the Gold Front Lanes that her father owned and operated. On August 2, 1958 she married Daryl Elliott, parents of five children. In the years following, their children gave them many grandchildren, whom they followed to all of their games whether it be baseball, basketball, football, soccer or volleyball. Many of the school music events at the opera house or schools as well.

She will be greatly missed by her children Becky (Dave) Schley, Greg (Liz Stankewitz) Elliott, Chris Elliott, Kathy (Roy) Hart and Jenny (Steve) Bohn; her grandchildren Jason, Joleen, Donnie, Benny, Erin, Tori, Olivia, Ian, Emma, Onna, Ella, Jake, Mandy, Casey, Steven, Joey and Eli, 21 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; sister, Vicky Douglas and brother, Tim McClelland; brothers- in-law, Bob and Lee; many nieces and nephews and a special niece, Shelly Belly.

Mary Jo was preceded in death by her loving husband, Daryl; parents, John and Susan (Sammons) McClelland; sister, Judy Essig; brother, Jack McClelland; brothers-in-law, Clyle, Denny, Jim and Don; and sisters-in-law Erlene and Bev.

Per her wishes she has been cremated with arrangements handled by Beck Funeral Home.

A graveside service will take place at Pine Hill Cemetery on May 6th at 1:00 p.m. followed by a celebration of life at the Inverness Township Hall.
