Melvin Plume
1939 - 2024Melvin Paul Plume passed away peacefully August 14, 2024 at Medilodge of Rogers City.
“Mel” was born March 5, 1939, to Archibald and Angeline (Lewandowski) Plume. He was one of eleven children in the house on Petersville Road.
Mel graduated from Rogers City High School in 1957 and went directly into the US Army, serving until 1959 in the Marne 3rd Infantry Division Automatic Rifle Team. This enabled him to travel throughout Europe honing his sharp shooting skills, earning many competition trophies of which he was very proud.
On May 14, 1960, Mel married Dale Wheeler of Rogers City and also started his career at Calcite (US Steel) Plant. Being an avid outdoorsman, he was so fortunate to live and work in an area that he so loved.
Mel is survived by Dale, his wife of 64 years, daughter Lisa (Paul) Gauden of Petoskey MI, son Neil (Carolyn) Plume of Burlington WA; three grandchildren, Christopher (Sandy) Blair of Charlevoix MI, Matthew (Megan) Blair of Holly Springs NC and Li-Ling Plume of Seattle WA, and two beautiful great-granddaughters; Ellie Blair of Charlevoix and Kayla Blair of Holly Springs. He is also survived by sisters: Alice (William) Altman, Janet (Jim) Bieske and brother Jerry (Andrea) Plume, along with so many nieces and nephews.
Mel was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Elmer, Ed, Jim, Joe and Richard and sisters; Mary and Ida.
Mel requested no services, but please share a memory and enjoy the great outdoors. He will be there….
