Michael Smigelski
1932 - 2024Michael Anthony Smigelski age 92 of Long Lake passed away at Medilodge in Alpena on December 31, 2024.
He was born in Krakow Township to Michael and Anna (Modrzynski) Smigelski on April 25, 1932.
On October 2, 1954, he married Anna Szatkowski at St. Casimir Catholic Church. He served in the United States Army from December 8, 1954, and was honorably discharged on November 8, 1956. He retired from Abitibi in 1992 following 34 years of employment. Michael enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing, playing cards with family and friends and working in the woods. He loved being the life of the party, first to arrive and the last to leave. His jokes will live on in the memories of all who heard them.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Anna; five children, Deborah (Kenneth) Worm of Waters, Michael Jr. (Ginger) Smigelski of Charolotte, Nancy (Don) Denomme of Alpena, Gary Smigelski of Potterville and Dale Smigelski of Commerce Township; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; one sister, Loretta Petrosky of South Lyon and a sister-in-law, Virginia Smigelski of Posen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Florian, Edward and Harry (Stella); sisters, Viola (Walter) Nowaczewski, Eleanore (Ed) Smith and Virginia (Stanley) Wozniak.
Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 7th from 4-8 p.m. where the rosary will be recited at 6:30 followed military honors accorded by Posen VFW Post 7804 at 6:45 and a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume on Wednesday at St. Casimir Catholic Church from 10 a.m. until time of Mass at 11 a.m. with Fr. Charlie Donajkowski officiating.
Interment will follow at St. Casimir Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of Michigan in memory of Michael Smigelski.
