Nancy Hastie
1933 - 2015Nancy J. Hastie, age 81, of Indian River
passed away at the Hospice House in Cheboygan on April 9, 2015.
She was born Oct. 19, 1933 to
Kenneth and Olga (Butts) Kingscott in Flint, Michigan.
They moved to Detroit in 1935 where she was raised, graduating from
Detroit’s Cooley High School in 1951. Nancy was married to John Hastie
on August 20, 1966 in Gaylord, Mi, They lived in Detroit and Royal Oak,
and then moved to Gaylord in 1971 where John worked for the Post Office.
In 1986 Nancy and John moved to Indian River. Nancy had worked as a
secretary at R. L. Polk & Co and then at General Motors Patent Section
in Detroit.
Her favorite hobby was genealogy which she started in 1974 when a
relative asked her about family letters from the Civil War era. She joined
the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1994 and the Colonial
Dames of America in 2001 and was a member of the Cheboygan County
Genealogical Society. She also loved her cats, bird watching and was a
member of the Indian River Friends of the Library and loved to read.
Nancy is survived by:
her husband John;
many cousins;
in-laws Michael and Janet Herman of St Ignace,
Mary Sklenar of Indian River and James Hastie of Mackinaw City.
There will be no funeral services, she will be cremated and buried with her
parents in Ohioville Cemetery in Indian River.
Nancy asked that memorial contributions be sent to the Cheboygan County
Humane Society, 1536 Hackleburg Road, Cheboygan, Michigan 49721
