Norman Prell

1921 - 2014

Norman Ralph Prell age 93 of Hawks,
passed away December 30, 2014 at
Rogers City Tendercare,

He was born November 21, 1921 in Hawks
to Henry and Effie (Trapp) Prell.

Norman enlisted in the United States Coast Guard on January 20, 1940.
For the first 3 years he was assigned to the Flag Ship USS Samuel Chase
and ran a Higgins landing craft. He was involved in 5 major invasions;
Algiers, North Africa 11/8/1942; Gela, Sicily 7/9/1943;

Salerno, Italy 9/9/1943; Omaha Beach (D-Day) 6/6/1944; and
Southern France 8/15/1944. He was honorably discharged on
November 6, 1945 as a Ist Class Boatswain’s Mate. On February 28,
1946 he married Eleanor May Snow in Fairhaven, Massachusetts.
Mr. Prell retired from US Steel Calcite Plant on April 30, 1983 as a
heavy equipment operator after 36 years of employment.

Norman ts survived by:
his wife, Eleanor;
4 children, Paul (Christy) Prell of Hawks,
Jeffrey (Patricia) Prell of Hawks,
Marilyn (Victor) Rothberg of Ann Arbor, and
Evelyn (William) Peterson of Gaylord;
7 grandchildren;
5 great grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his sister, Henrietta Kohler.

Friends may visit at Faith Lutheran Church on Friday from 10:00 a.m,
through time of his memorial service at 11:00 a.m. with
Rev. Dr. Jack Ferguson officiating. Rogers City VFW Post 607 will
accord military honors following church services.

Inurnment will take place at Faith Lutheran Cemetery.
