Peggy Hiar

1932 - 2023

Peggy Jean (Burns) Hiar
AKA: The Chicken Whisperer
Passed away peacefully April 27, 2023 with her family by her side.

Born in Manistique Michigan to Gerald and Alice (Erickson) Burns on May 24, 1932, the oldest of 5 children growing up in Manistique, is where she met her first husband James J Scoon, with whom she had 5 children. She then married and was widowed by George E. Hiar, he brought 6 children to the farm, and they then had two daughters bringing the total to 13 kids on the farm in Carp Lake where they
spent their last years. Being on the farm was Peggy’s happiest of days, she loved farming.
But what brought her the most joy were her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. And she had a lot!!!!
She loved raising chickens, geese, ducks, rabbits and whatever may have been dropped by her door, even a goat named Sally.
Peggy was a devoted friend to many, and even on her last day reminded everyone, “You have to love everyone, no matter what”. She loved her bible studies and believed she would be going to a great place after her death. And we believe she is a special angel, now watching over us from above.

Peggy leaves behind, sons James M. Scoon and Marshall Scoon, daughters, Michelle Ranville, Georgia Litzner, and Dixie Hiar-Fyke. And our brother from another mother Jeffrey Green. Sister Ruthann McKinnon, and brother Maclyn Burns. Many-Many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Daryll and Jerry Burns, husband George Hiar, daughter Robin (Scoon) Krupa and son Michael Scoon, Step children Ron Hiar and Vicki Hiar. And a grandson Val Ditta.

Peggy was a simple person and enjoyed a simple life with friends and family always by her side. She hopes you all celebrate her life as she lived to be 90 years and 11 months old, which she always said, “Getting old is not for whimps” and so we are following her wishes.
To have no formal service but to remember and celebrate her life.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Peggy’s honor to the Cheboygan Humane Society, or the Crystal Jutson Memorial Scholarship fund through the Pellston Education Foundation.
