Richard Furtaw

1935 - 2021

Richard Neil Furtaw, born Dec 11, 1935 and youngest of nine is survived by his wife, Mary Carroll, 30 plus years. Leaves nephews, nieces, good friends and neighbors here in Rogers City. Graduated from Michigan Tech, than onto UCLA on a fellowship where he received his Master’s Degree in Mathematics followed by 35 years in Aerospace as a Director of Engineering overseeing 40 Engineers. Travels include Belgium, Brussels, Luxembourg, Spain as well as Washington DC where he interfaced with Admirals over his time with Hughes Aircraft. Richard lived an incredible life in California for 54 years where he enjoyed golf, restaurants, sunshine and theater. A Neil Diamond fan, he attended his concerts at The Greek Theatre. A favorite “The Story of My Life”. After retiring and moving from Corona del Mar to Palm Springs CA he volunteered with the “Boys and Girls” Club. His goal was to motivate these young kids to want to learn. He was later given a “Friend of Youth” award and dinner by the Mayor of Palm Springs for his unique approach and dedication. Richard wants to be remembered for his contribution in helping others in Math and Science, an avid reader, intellectual artist, playing scrabble, writer, his passion for golf and all-around good person. Husband and best friend for over 30 years I got to share this amazing journey with him. My dearest Richard,
The Best Is Yet To Come.
