Richard Sangster

1931 - 2015

Richard Robert Angus Sangster, 83, passed away peacefully
on Thursday January 8, 2015 at Hospice House of Cheboygan.

Richard was born on November 11, 1931 in Cheboygan
to Aylwin and Gladys (Phillips) Sangster.

He was raised in Cheboygan and graduated from Cheboygan High School
in 1950. Dick enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1950 and was
stationed in Germany during his service to our country and was honorably
discharged as a Sargent in 1954, He attended Michigan State University,
graduating with a BS in Business.

August 24, 1957 he married Beverly Sue Roush at the St. James Episcopal
Church, In 1958 Richard and Beverly made Cheboygan their home. Dick
worked alongside his father at Cheboygan Auto Supply. Dick also founded
Straits Area Glass. He later became the sole owner of Cheboygan Auto
Supply. Being the entrepreneur that he was, he had a vision for the
property along the M-33 bridge where he developed the Summer Moorings
Marina and Pier 33 party store.

During his many years as a Cheboygan resident, Dick served as a vestry
member at St. James Episcopal Church, a member of the Downtown
Development Association, and an original member of the Cheboygan
Yacht Club. He was also a member of the Cheboygan Golf & Country
Club, the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Michigan, the
Grand Council of Royal Arch Masons of Michigan, the Historical Society
of Cheboygan County, and the Fraternal Order of the Elks. Dick was an
avid Michigan State Spartan fan. He enjoyed world travel, boating, Fox
News, and healthy discussions on politics.
Dick is survived by:
his devoted wife Beverly,
their children Kimberly Sangster and companion, Aoife Lee of Chicago;
His son, Christopher and his wife, Shaney and their two daughters.
Alanna and Madelyn.
His daughter, Lisa and husband Donald White and her children, Jacob and
Kathryn Gildner of Traverse City,
His youngest son, Richard B. Sangster and his daughters Myranda,
Taylor, and Anna Claire Sangster and their mother,
Brenda Romanik,

Also surviving are his brother, W. Robert Sangster of Kansas City, Mo and
his sisters Mary Enderle of Lansing and Ruth Sangster of
Sault Ste. Marie, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Barbara VanSickle &
Patricia Kwiatkowski, and brother Albert Sangster.

A celebration of life will be held at St James Episcopal Church on
Monday, January 12, 2015. The family will receive visitors beginning at
10:00 a.m. with service at 11:00, The family wishes to express their
appreciation for the condolences and support they have received.
Memorials may be given to St James Episcopal Church Memorial Fund or
Hospice House of Cheboygan.
