Robert Pritchard, Jr.

1928 - 2018

Robert O. “Bob” Pritchard Jr. died peacefully at

The Brook, his second home in Cheboygan Michigan,
on April 27, 2018. He is survived by his sons

Ken (Kathey) Pritchard and Mark (Karen) Pritchard.
Ken’s family includes daughter Kristyn (Brian) Biondo
and their children Sloan and Chloe, and son

Kevin (Lindsey) Pritchard, Mark’s family includes son
Alex (Hannah) Pritchard and daughter Mary Sheila Pritchard. He also is
survived by his brother Neil (Betty) Pritchard, brother-in-law

Richard Oliver, several nieces and nephews, and also by his dear friend
Joyce Brown-Moore,

Bob was born on December 23, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of
Robert O. Pritchard Sr. and Sheila Onalee Edwards, He graduated from
Cooley High School and attended Michigan State College for a year
before joining the US Army in 1946, He served in the occupation forces
of Japan, where he met his future wife Jeanne Oliver, who was in Japan
with her mother and father, a US State Department employee. They
married in 1948 in Detroit, a marriage that lasted 68 years until she
preceded him in death in 2016.

Bob continued college at Wayne State University and graduated in 1951.
His two sons were born shortly after that.Bob worked for the Reliance
Insurance Company in Detroit. In 1959 he moved his family to Arlington
Heights Illinois, where he worked as a training supervisor at Allstate
Insurance,

While in Illinois he served as Chairman of Officers and Directors Training
for the Chicago Area Jaycees. He also served as Chairman of the Records
and Recognition Committee for two years in which the chapter was named
the best chapter for its size in nation, He was also active as a Boy Scout
leader and leadership training instructor.

In 1966 he returned to Michigan and was an independent insurance agent
in Ypsilanti for 24 years. Bob was president of the Ypsilanti Rotary Club
and served on numerous civic and governmental boards including the
Highland Cemetery Association, Ypsilanti District Library, Washtenaw
County Mental Health Board, Hospice of Washtenaw, and the Industrial
Development Board of Ypsilanti.

In 1990 Bob and Jeanne retired and moved to Cheboygan, Michigan into
the home they had been building for the previous ten years.

Bob was an extremely active citizen of the Cheboygan area and
contributed time and financial support to many organizations in northern
Michigan including the Cheboygan Area Rotary Club, Straits Area
Concerned Citizens for Peace/Justice and the Environment, Cheboygan
County Democratic Party and the Unitarian/Universalist Association of
Petoskey. He volunteered for many other organizations including the
Cheboygan Community Hospital, Lawrence Hall and the Salvation Army.

Bob was a prolific writer on many subjects especially the need for the
need for integrity and ethics in civic life, and a frequent poet as well.
His desire to improve the lives of others was the driving force of his life.

Cremation has taken place. A remembrance gathering in honor of Bob and
Jeanne Pritchard will be held at the Cheboygan Eagles Club,
626 N Main St. on Sunday, June 3rd 2018 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. where
the Cheboygan VFW Post 3623 will accord military honors at 4:00 p.m.
