Robin Spencer
1946 - 2021Robert Grant “Robin” Spencer age 75 of Traverse City and Presque Isle passed away November 26, 2021 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
He was born July 11, 1946 in Flint to Marshall “Tony” and Marjorie (Gordon) Spencer.
Robin graduated from Alpena High School in 1964 then served in the United States Naval Reserve from 1964-1969. He married Laurie Ann Steinke on August 7, 1971 at the Grand Lake Community Chapel.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Laurie of 50 years; three children, Shandy Alan Spencer of Cedar, Sabrina Ann (Calvin) Carr of Kalkaska and Steven Andrew (Sandy) Spencer of Presque Isle; seven grandchildren, Jayden, Erin, Adrian, Caylee, Madison, Maverick and Mia; one brother, Richard Alan (Brenda) Spencer of Fort Myers, Florida as well as several nieces and nephews.
Robin was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall “Tony” and Marjorie Spencer; a granddaughter, Megan; a brother Dean Spencer and a sister Carol Geyer.
Robin owned and operated Spencer & Associates Real Estate until his retirement. In his retirement years, he was Innkeeper at the Presque Isle Lodge and was working on a book titled “From Pancakes to Plungers – the Story of an Innkeeper”. Robin served as President and director of the Michigan Association of Realtors, Superintendent and Sunday School Teacher at the Grand Lake Community Chapel, President of the Grand Lake Association, and Chairman of the Presque Isle Harbor Wood Boat Show. He attended and graduated from Alpena High School and was President of the Sophomore Class. He attended and graduated from Alpena Community College where he was Vice-President of the Freshman Class and President of Circle K. He attended both EMU and MSU (Education Major) and did student teaching in Alpena Public Schools and Walled Lake Consolidated Schools. He was a gold badge retiree of the East Grand Lake Fire Department; Supervisor, Clerk, and Trustee of Presque Isle Township; and Presque Isle County Commissioner. The Michigan Association of Realtors recognized Robin as the Alpena-Alcona-Presque Isle Board of Realtor of the Year in 1987. He was named Citizen of the Year in Presque Isle Township.
Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 30th from 4-8 p.m. where the Rogers City VFW Post 607 will offer a military tribute at 7 p.m.
Graveside service and interment will take place at the Presque Isle Township Cemetery on Wednesday, December 1st at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Greg and Rev. Karen Zurakowski officiating.
A celebration of life will be announced when the date is set in the spring/summer of 2022.
Memorials can be made to the Grand Lake Association, Grand Lake Community Chapel, East Grand Lake Volunteer Fire Department, or the Presque Isle Township Museum Society.
