Roger Frye

1945 - 2022

Roger Dale Frye age 77 of Hillman passed away peacefully with his family by his side on July 27, 2022.

He was born to Violet Morgan in Rogers City on April 14th, 1945 and was known by friends there as “Butch”. He married Bonnie Benac in 1964 and became a lifelong resident of Hillman.

Roger is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bonnie, his daughter Lisa (David) Scarniac, sons John (Wendy) Frye and Jeff Frye, son-in-law Michael Hachigian and sibling Rae Tulkgestka. Roger was blessed with grandchildren Ashley (Corwin) Tracey, Michael (Casey) Hachigian, Jake Scarniac, Tara (Gary) Russell, and great-grandchildren Wyatt, Noah, Eva and Gary.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Lori Hachigian and siblings Wayne and Mac Morgan.

Roger was the owner of Frye Forest Products for over 40 years, where he helped property owners care for their land while proudly supporting his family. Roger was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, having just completed a term as Grand Knight. Roger served many civic and volunteer roles, including Montmorency County Commission for 20 years, Ducks Unlimited committee member for more than 30 years, Huron Pines Board Member for 20 years, and Northeast Michigan Mental Health Board Member for over 20 years.

Roger could be found at any time talking about fishing, hunting, or his family. These three passions were his greatest pleasure, and something he enjoyed his entire life. His love of family and desire to help others was readily apparent and his presence will be deeply missed by many.

Friends may visit at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Hillman on Tuesday, August 2nd from 10 a.m. through time of Mass at 12-Noon with Fr. James Siler officiating.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to St. Augustine Catholic Church.
