1928 - 2017Ronald Wayne Freel age 88 of Millersburg
passed away April 3, 2017 at Evergreen Care Home,
He was born on July 13, 1928 in Millersburg
to William and Anna (Peetz) Freel
He married Louise Devitt on August 19, 1950. Ron gave her the nickname
“Spike.” He started his life as a partner with his father at the sawmill and
as a lumberjack, He was partners with brother John at Freel Brothers
Builders, They built many homes in Presque Isle and Alpena County. He
loved to hunt deer and pheasant. Everyone in the area will remember him
for his Model T Ford that he drove through many parades. Most will
remember him as Uncle Ron or the Candy Man to the children. He had a
strong faith in his Lord and Savior and was a member of the Ocqueoc
Baptist Church,
Ron is survived by:
his wife of 66 years, Louise;
6 children, Margie Freel of Millersburg,
Ronetta (Marty) Smith of Cadillac,
Dawn (Larry) Badgero of Bay City,
Ron (Lisa) Freel of Hawks, Tim Freel of Millersburg, and
Kevin (Katic) Freel of Millersburg;
14 grandchildren;
22 great grandchildren;
2 great-great grandchildren;
brother, Arthur Freel of Menominee;
3 sisters, Eva (Lyle) McDonald of Tucson, AZ,
Dorothy (Roger) Mercer of Traverse City, and
Fern (Reg) Hitchcock of Onaway;
3 sisters-in-law, Eleanor Freel of Onaway, Grace Freel of Millersburg,
and Marge Freel of Alpena; and
multiple nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Anna;
6 brothers, Irvin, George, Billie, Ralph, John, and Earl; and
sister, Violet McLennan,
Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home on Friday, April 7th, from
5:00 p.m, until 8:00 p.m, Visitation will resume on Saturday at Ocqueoc
Baptist Church from 10:00 a.m. through time of his funeral at 11:00 a.m,
with Pastor Bud Smith officiating.
Inurnment will take place at Riverside Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Bethel Youth Camp or
any Christian Organizations of your choice in memory of Ron Freel.
