Ronald “Ronny” Lee Hiar 60
Ron passed away suddenly on March 26th 2017 at McLaren Northern
Michigan Hospital in Petoskey.
Ron was born April 2, 1956 to George Hiar and Jean Schmalzried.
He attended Pellston Public schools in Pellston, Michigan where he was a
1974 graduate. He played basketball, football and baseball,
Ron loved sports. He also coached a girls’ softball team from Levering
for many years.
He then went on to work construction his whole life and was involved in
the Union through his job, where he met and kept in contact with several
of his coworkers through the years.
Ron’s hobbies were watching sports, talking politics, family genealogy
and riding around to different places with his nephew Conner Rey,
He was the son of George Hiar and Jean Schmalzried. Was raised by
George and Peggy (Burns) Hiar on the small family farm in Carp Lake.
He lived on the property for many years until he began taking care of his
Special Aunt Dona (Bouford) Hiar, wife of Paul Hiar. He lived in the Hiar
farm on Luesing Rd. in Levering Michigan while caring for Dona, and
Paul who preceded him in death,
Ron leaves behind many friends and family members. Surviving are
Mother Peggy Hiar, Michelle (Mark Scott) Ranville, James Scoon,
Michael Scoon, Marshall (Karen) Scoon, Georgia Litzner, and Dixie Hiar,
Jeff Green, Edward Hiar, Jerry Hiar, James (Maric) Hiar, and Kathy Hiar,
Aunt Dona (Buford) Hiar and his nephew who was more like his Son,
Conner Rey. Also many, neices and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his birth mother Jean Schmalzried, father,
George Hiar, sister Vicki Hiar, sister Robin (Chris) Krupa,
nephew Val Ditta.
Ron’s wishes were simple, He requested memorials be directed to the
Northern Michigan Cancer Crusaders in “Honor” of his sister Dixie Hiar
who is a breast cancer survivor, or to the Pellston Public Schools Sports
A spring memorial is being planned and will be in the paper announcing
the date and time we celebrate his life.
