Sher K. Muszynski of Mt. Pleasant
passed away suddenly on June 21, 2012
at McLaren Central Michigan
She was born in Rogers City
to Phillip and Beatrice (Nowicki) Muszynski
Sher was raised in Rogers City and graduated from Rogers City High School.
She attended Mercy School of Nursing in Cadillac and Bay City, earning her nursing
degree. To further her education she worked at Rogers City Hospital while attending
Alpena Community College. Sher worked at CMC Hospital while attending CMU
where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Education and her Master’s in
Art Education Degrees. Ms. Muszynski also earned her Specialist Degree at
San Miquel de Allende, Mexico. She began her teaching career at
Kirksville University, Missouri and then accepted a position in Quincy, Illinois,
teaching a specialized art program. In 1973 she began teaching for the Mt. Pleasant
School System. Starting at the Elementary level, then completing the last 30 years
at the Junior High level. Ms Muszynski had a love of teaching her students the
visual arts, art history, and the wonderful possibilities the world had to offer them.
She retired from teaching in June of 2010.
Sher was bitten by the travel bug early in her career while backpacking through
Europe. She traveled extensively with her sister and groups of students and adults
on educational tours through Russia, Europe, Australia, and the Scandinavian
Countries over a twenty five year span. Her interests include, antiquing, refinishing
furniture, painting, and working side-by-side with her husband on their 1965 Ford
Tractor at deer camp. She also loved animals and rescued dozens of stray and
abandoned cats and dogs.
Sher is survived by:
her husband, Dr. Daniel Kane;
mother, Beatrice Muszynski of Rogers City;
sister, True Muszynski of Mt. Pleasant;
brother, Jeffrey Muszynski of Long Lake;
mother-in-law, Suzanne (Charles) Vannorsdall of Mt. Pleasant;
sisters-in-law, Patricia (Mark) Wompler of Chesterfield Township,
Maureen (Max) Machuta of Traverse City,
Roberta (Victor) Wezensky of Toledo,
Christine (Tom) Clark of Denver and
several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her dad, Phillip.
Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home on Sunday, June 24th from 3:00 until
8:00 p.m. with rosary at 6:30 followed by the parish wake service at 7:00 p.m.
with Fr. Arthur Duchnowicz conducting. Mass of Christian Burial will take place
at St. Ignatius Catholic Church on Monday at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Stan Bereda
officiating. Friends may gather at church one hour prior to Mass.
A memorial service will take place in Mt. Pleasant at a later date.
Burial will take place at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
