Shirley Karsten
1930 - 2016Shirley Mae Karsten age 85 of Rogers City
passed away at home on May 10, 2016.
She was born September 12, 1930 in Dearborn
to Clifford and Beulah (Bennett) Fater.
Shirley and her family moved to Millersburg in 1945. She graduated from
Onaway High School in 1948 and later from County Normal. She taught
school for 2 years then took a secretarial job at the Presque Isle County
Road Commission. Following her marriage to Edward Karsten on
November 17, 1949 the Karstens made their home in Rogers City, Shirley
retired as Bookkeeper for Karsten Electric Inc.
Mrs. Karsten is survived by:
4 children, Kathleen (James) Yates of Pinckney,
Deborah (Mark) Quaine of Lachine, Sherri May of Ohio and
Kenneth (Jane) Karsten of Rogers City;
7 grandchildren, Kenneth (Kelly) Karsten, Erica (Brian) Kamyszek,
Shaun (Katrina) Karsten, Rachel Quaine, Charles May,
Chandler May and Christin May;
she is also survived by 7 great grandchildren.
Shirley was preceded in death by:
her parents, Clifford and Beulah;
husband, Edward;
sister, Phyllis Bates;
brother, Buhl Fater; and
a grandson, Daniel Quaine.
Private graveside services will take place at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery
in Moltke.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of the Sunrise
Shore in memory of Shirley Karsten.
