1931 - 2019

Stanley Edward Herrick age 88 of Hillman went to Heaven from MidMichigan Medical Center in Alpena on October 8, 2019.

He was born on May 19, 1931 in Hillman to Stanley William and Johanna Charlotte (Brandt) Herrick.

Stanley married Doris Pfeiffer on August 9, 1952 at St. John Lutheran Church in Hillman. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, where he served as President of the Congregation for 26 years. He served on many boards including Michigan Milk Producers Association, Community Financial Credit Union, Hillman Community School Board of Education, Agriculture Stabilization Conservation, and Soil Conservation. He was awarded the Alumni of the Year from Hillman Community School in 1991. Stanley was inducted into the Hillman High School Sports Hall of Fame Richard Brown Trailblazers Club in 2016.

Stanley was the oldest of seven children. He graduated from Hillman High School and was awarded a scholarship to the University of Michigan where he played on the freshman baseball team. He was invited to try out to play professional baseball and continued playing baseball for the Northern Michigan and Alpena County Leagues.

Stanley was a successful dairy farmer, taking over the family homestead from his grandfather, keeping the farm in the family for over 100 years. He loved the land and often thanked God for the use of His land. He was always thankful for the many people that helped him to rebuild after a fire on the farm. He loved his family and was proud that they are all followers of Jesus Christ. Stanley enjoyed golfing in his retirement and was most proud of his two holes-in-one.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Doris; his six children, Ann Wright of Hillman, Stanley W. Herrick of Hillman, John (Janelle) Herrick of Hillman, Laurie (Wayne) Parkin of Houston, TX, and Lynnette (Bradley) Thompson of Sebring, FL; and Lydia Walker of Hillman; 11 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two brothers, Richard (Kathy) Herrick of Lake City and William (Mary) Herrick of Detroit; and three sisters, Joan (William) Pfaffman of Farmington Hills, Sandra (Robert) Antilla of Harbor Springs, and Mary Ann Grivna of Farmington.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Johanna; sister, Charlotte Nelson; grandson, Chad Adams; and son-in-law, Dennis Walker.

Friends may visit at St. John Lutheran Church in Royston on Friday, October 11th from 2-8 p.m. and again on Saturday from 10 a.m. through time of his funeral at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jason Mandley officiating.

Interment will take place at Montmorency Township Cemetery.

Memorials may be given in Stanley’s memory to St. John Lutheran Church or Hospice of Michigan.
