died April 10, 2012 at home
Susan Lee Reynolds was born February 5, 1953 in Cleveland, Ohio
to Francis E, And Jean M. (Fertig) Reynolds.
She moved with her family from Parma, Ohio to Alpena in 1964. Susan was a 1971
graduate of Alpena High School, a 1973 graduate of Alpena Community College,
and a 1975 graduate of Central Michigan University, majoring in journalism.
She married Michael J. Grulke on August 23, 1975 at First United Methodist Church
in Alpena. They spent all of their married life in Rogers City. Susan was a news
writer and photographer for the Alpena News for 17 years and a news writer,
columnist and copy editor for The Presque Isle County Advance for 10 years.
She enjoyed her work very much and cared several awards through the
Michigan Press Association. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church,
where she was an elder and moderator of the Mission Committee, a member of
Circle IV, and was the organist for several years. She also was active in the
Hurons Athletic Boosters Association, serving as secretary for three years.
She enjoyed making cards, quilting, listening to music, traveling, reading, and
attending local theater productions. Susan was fortunate to have considerable success
in battling a rare lung disease (Idiopathic Pulmonary Hypertension) for eight years
and underwent a double lung transplant in 2007. Her faith and sense of humor
enabled her to keep a positive attitude, and she was grateful for her many blessings.
Surviving are:
her husband, Michael,
a daughter, Megan (CJ Waldron) of Surprise, Arizona;
ason, Scott of East Lansing;
a sister, Norine Seguin (Bill) of Stratford, New Jersey;
a brother, Tom Reynolds (Amy) of Alpena,
her mother-in-law, Diane Grulke of Rogers City;
seven first cousins;
12 nieces and nephews;
eight great nieces and nephews; and
an uncle and aunt, James and Alice Hover of Valley City, Ohio.
Sue was preceded in death by:
her parents;
a nephew, William Francis Seguin; and
a cousin, Greg Hover.
Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home on Saturday from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m.
for a memorial visitation.
Pastor Scott Hill will officiate at A Witness to the Resurrection Service on
Sunday, April 15th at 3:00 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
