Thomas Mulka
1940 - 2023Thomas Henry Mulka 83 of Rogers City passed away peacefully on June 14, 2023 with his devoted and loving wife of nearly 60 years by his side.
Thomas was born in Rogers City on May 30, 1940 to Henry and Ruth (Free) Mulka.
He attended St. Ignatius school then graduated from Rogers City High School in 1958. He joined the Army and spent time overseas in Korea. After his return, he married Nancy Kieda on July 20, 1963. They spent 10 years living in Inkster before returning to his hometown where they lived on Nagel Hwy for the last 47 years.
Tom loved the outdoors. He spent time hunting, fishing, and woodworking. After he retired, he built a pole barn where he enjoyed spending his days watching the Tigers, collecting old tools and making friends with the local chipmunks and feeding them on his lap. He also loved listening to music and often enjoyed playing guitar. Throughout his years, he always loved having a family dog or 2 and even grew to love cats. For many years he was a member of the Sportsmen’s Club and enjoyed target shooting. He also was a lifelong member of St. Ignatius Church.
Tom is survived by his wife, Nancy of 60 years; three children, Joseph (Sarah) of Rogers City, Sarah (Jason) Stepnitz of Chesterfield and Elaine (Mike) Smith of Waterford. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, oldest to youngest, Abbey, Anthony, Chloe, Patrick, Elijah, Samantha, Tanek, Freya and Leo. He is also survived by his sister, Ann Marie Zimmer of Clare and his sister-in-law Arlene Mulka of Wyoming and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Henry “Hank” and Ruth Mulka, a son, Steven, his brother, Ronald, his brother-in-law Richard and his in-laws, Walter and Agnes Kieda.
Friends may visit at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Rogers City on Saturday, July 1st from 9 AM through time of Mass at 10 AM. with Fr. Scott Lawler officiating. Rogers City VFW Post 607 will accord military honors in church immediately following Mass.
Inurnment will take place at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
