Virginia Conley

Virginia “Jean” Conley of Stanwood, formerly of Rogers City, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2026.

She was born February 21, 1930 to Michael and Pelagia (Buza) Grohowski.

On June 21, 1952 she married Delmar Conley at St. Ignatius Catholic Church. They were married for 61 years. Virginia was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her family was by far the most important aspect of her life. Virginia was always available with a listening ear and a helping hand. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and she surrounded them all with prayer. She will be remembered for her thoughtfulness and generosity. For 30 years the family enjoyed spending
time at their cottage on Grand Lake. Virginia and Delmar spent many nights enjoying dancing and listening to big band music. They enjoyed traveling around the U.S. during their retirement years. Virginia was a member of the Society of Our Blessed Lady and a past member of the Daughters of Isabella.

Virginia is survived by her children Michelle (Jon) McLain of Alpena, Laurie (Tim) Canfield of Frederic, Kay (John) Johnson of Stanwood, and Chris (Shelly) Conley of Howell. Her grandchildren Erin (Simon) McLain Gysbers, Sean McLain, Calli and Nicole Johnson, Clay and Sarah Conley and great granddaughters Elowen and Ava Gysbers. Virginia is also survived by sister-in-laws Lois Furtaw and Mrs. James Grohowski and brother-in-law James Conley.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Delmar, her parents, infant brothers Eugene and Frank and siblings Eleanor, Gerald, Edward
and James.

According to her wishes, a private funeral Mass and celebration of life was held at St. Ignatius Church.

Burial followed at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
