Virginia Karsten
1927 - 2014Virginia Helen Karsten, age 86 of Rogers City,
passed away March 17, 2014 at Orchard AFC Home.
She was born August 29, 1927 in Rogers City
to Michael and Pelagia (Chrzan) Yarch.
Virginia resided in Rogers City her entire life and raised her four children
while her husband sailed the Great Lakes, Upon their retirement she
enjoyed traveling to Florida during the winter months. She and Marvin
celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on August 7, 2002. On
September 11, 2009 she moved to the Orchard Adult Foster Care Home in
Posen where she was lovingly cared for by Randy Kroll and Staff.
Virginia was a member St. Ignatius Catholic Church and the Daughters of
Isabella # 974 and former member of St. Ignatius Altar Society. Her
greatest joy was being with her family, She enjoyed crocheting afghans,
quilting, working in her flower garden, and bowling. She was inducted
into Rogers City Womens Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1995,
Mrs. Karsten is survived by:
4 children, Peggy (Norman) Kowalski, Patricia (Edward) Brege,
Dr. Mark (Melissa) Karsten all of Rogers City and
Jeanine (Paul) Hein of Ludington;
10 grandchildren, Brandi Tulgestke, Kaeli (Brad) Dufresne,
Tyler (Kaeclie Fairbanks) Kowalski,
Matthew (Becky) Brege, Kristi Brege, Jessica Muller,
Bret Karsten, Chad Karsten, Joel (Jessica) Hein, and
Andy (Kelly Foote) Hein;
11 great grandchildren, Sydney and Trevor Tulgestke,
Lily and Eli Dufresne, Mallory Kowalski,
Jacob and Isaac Brege, Caleb Karsten,
Elise Muller, Logan and Trent Hein;
Sister, Florence Bull of Bridgeport;
in-laws, Robert (Lucille) Karsten, James (Geraldine) Karsten,
Chester (Brenda) Karsten, Dolores Karsten,
Lila Burkness, Margaret (John) Carnali,
Nancy (James) Klingshirn, and Jean (Richard) Warwick;
several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews,
as well as many other friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by:
her husband, Marvin “Archie” Karsten on November 11, 2009;
parents, Michael and Pelagia Yarch;
sister, Stella (Charles) Montych;
brother, Louis (Sally) Yarch;
in-laws, Kenneth Bull, Archie and Margaret Karsten, Norman Karsten,
John Burkness, Sylvia and Dick Staley.
Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home on Friday from 3:00 until
8:00 p.m. where the Daughters of Isabella will lead the rosary at 6:30
followed the parish wake service at by 7:00 p.m, conducted by
Fr, Sylvestre Obwaka.
Visitation will resume on Saturday at St. Ignatius Catholic Church from
9:00 a.m. until time of Mass at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Sylvestre Obwaka
celebrating,
Interment will take place at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery next to her
beloved Archie.
Memorials may be given to St. Ignatius Catholic School,
St. Ignatius Catholic Church, or Hospice of Michigan.
