Walter Wenzel

Walter Edward Wenzel Jr. age 90 of Rogers City passed away peacefully at Hillman Haven on September 30, 2024.

He was born in Detroit to Walter and Olga (Miller) Wenzel on July 12, 1934.

Walt enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served during the Korean War, he was honorably discharged on June 13, 1956. On January 25, 1958 he married Barbara Eckhardt. Walt worked as a deputy for the Presque Isle County Sheriff’s Department from 1978 until retiring as a Sergeant in 2000. He continued serving the citizens of Presque Isle County as our veterans counselor for many years following.

Walt is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Rick Berg of Rogers City.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara on February 29, 2024.

Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home on Friday, October 4th from 4-6 p.m.

Honors and burial will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.

Memorials may be given to Tunnel to Towers Foundation or Wounded Warrior Project in memory of Walter Wenzel.
