William Altman
1929 - 2024William Joseph “Bill” Altman age 95 of Hawks passed away peacefully at MyMichigan Health Center in Alpena on October 18, 2024.
He was born in Hagensville on September 18, 1929, to William and Mary (Dost) Altman.
Bill served in the United States Army during the Korean War. When he returned home, he married Alice Plume at St. Ignatius Catholic Church on July 10, 1954. Bill sailed on the Bradley for several years then went to work at Stone Port, and from there he worked at Calcite until he decided to farm full time. Bill enjoyed potato farming, hunting and helping in the Amish Community. He was a life member of Posen VFW Post 7804 and a proud member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; two daughters, Nancy (Dennis) Schellie of Grand Lake and Julie (Randy Stachnik) Altman of Cedar; two grandchildren, Matt (Angela) Schellie and Jessica (Scott) Wickersham; three great grandchildren, Erica, Emma and Jacob; one great-great grandson, Xander; a sister-in-law, Ruth Altman, and many nieces and nephews
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary, and siblings, John, August, Albert, Leo, Josephine, Ann, Martha and Bertha.
Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 22nd from 4-8 p.m. where the Knights of Columbus will lead rosary at 6:30. Visitation will resume on Wednesday at St. Casimir from 10 a.m. until time of Mass at 11 a.m. with Fr. Charlie Donajkowski officiating.
Posen VFW Post 7804 will accord military honors at church following Mass.
Inurnment will take place at St. Dominic Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be given to St. Casimir Catholic Church in memory of Bill Altman.
