Zona Pierson

1916 - 2012

Zona Pierson of St. Ignace passed away on September 13, 2012,
nine days before her 96th birthday.

The fourth of six children, she was born on September 22, 1916 to
Harry and Louise Kalbfleisch in St. Ignace. She was a member of the basketball
team at LaSalle High School where she graduated as the class salutatorian.
After graduation, she was employed at Wing’s Garage.

In 1942, she and Fred Pierson were married in St. Ignace, where they resided except
for the years Fred served in the Pacific during WW II. He preceded her in death.
After being a homemaker for many years, Zona went to work for the St. Ignace
Public Schools. She enjoyed interacting with all of the students, staying in touch
with many beyond their graduation and beyond her retirement in 1981.

Zona enjoyed sports as both a participant and spectator. She especially enjoyed
following her sons and grandsons throughout their high school and college years.
She enjoyed time with family, tending to her roses and flower garden, traveling, and
walking. She participated in a walking program last winter and spring. She also
spent many hours in her sun porch enjoying the seasons and the activities on the
lake which she loved to share with visitor

Survivors include her children: Barry and Cindy Pierson, Paula and Tom Flatley,
and Rae and Chuck Tamlyn;
her grandchildren: Hayley Pierson, Charlie and Christina Pierson, Chase Pierson,
Zach Pierson and Paul Tamlyn;
one great grandson: Lucas Pierson;
one sister: Claris Snyder; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, Fred, she was preceded in death by
her three brothers: Floyd, Selden, and Clair; one sister: Verna Miles.

A graveside memorial service will be held at Lakeside Cemetery on
September 17, 2012.
Grandchildren Hayley, Paul, Charlic, Chase and Zach will be pallbearers.

The Rev. Alsgaard will officiate.
